Dear London runners!
This year's London Marathon will be its 30th edition, however it is also a
premiere: The very first Virgin London Marathon. And it already boasts a
record! There were 162,000 applications, far more than ever. London
Marathon organisers provided 51,266 numbers, little more than ever.
It's not just the main sponsor that has
changed, there are some more minor alterations:
- Use of IPICO Sports Tag instead of the former
ChampionChip. IPICO has to be attached to your shoe and will be
removed and collected behind the finish line.
- The drink stations will provide Nestlé Pure Life Water
in 330ml bottles with a flip-top.
- At mile 14 and mile 21.5 there will be Lucozade Sports
Carbo Gel available (additionally to five Lucozade Sports
Drink Stations ).
- Split times will be taken and published every 5km and
at half marathon point.
- The formerly blue line will be red as this is the
colour of new sponsor Virgin.

Official Final Instructions
Disappointing news from Martin Lel, three-time LM
champion. He had to withdraw due to a leg injury. There are
unanswered questions about Irina Mikitenko, defending double LM
champion. She had to cancel her Easter race in Germany and
hasn't published any news so far. She hasn't raced in 2010 what
puts some doubts on her appearance in London.
Hopefully you are doing better!
happy running
Uli
