On a day that was the wettest and most windy London Marathon in
the history of 40 events Brigid Kosgei defends her London
champion title in a strong time of 2:18:58. Surprising runner-up
is Sara Hall (USA, 2:22:01) who wins a sprint finish with
world record holder Ruth Chepngetich (KEN, 2:22:05).

More problems with the harsh conditions showed four-time London
champion Eliud Kipchoge. At 3 miles to the finish he
failed to follow the leading group. A spectacular sprint finish
of three was won by Shura Kitata (ETH, 2:05:41) just one
second ahead of Vincent Kipchumba (KEN) and a mere 3 more
third runner Sisay Lemma (ETH). Kipchoge faded to 8th
place.

Surprises, too, in the wheelchair races. The men's field was
lead by Canadian Brant Lakatos with David Weir
(UK) and Marcel Hug (CH) left for the podium.
Same astonishment with the ladies. Nikita den Boer (NED)
took victory, beating defending champion Manuela Schär
(CH) and Jenna Fesemyer (USA) at third place.
